WHY LETTERS? THROUGH LETTERS YOU CAN FEEL TIME.
On November 23, “Meanings Art Gallery” presents a new exhibition “Letters”: a collection of paintings, mosaics and sculptures by contemporary Russian authors, which will be presented in THE DOM space.
Artists: VICTORIA AND OLGA – SISTERS IN ART
The “Letters” project consists of four independent stories told by young artists. It is the artists who sense changes in the social environment before others; the style and language of the period are visible in their works. The general leitmotif of the exhibition was the idea of writing as evidence of time. By the style of writing you can always find out what century the letter belongs to, what people it tells about and what mood it conveys. We can say that letters are time. And here the authors of the exhibition ask two questions: first - what letters did young artists have to write in 2023, second - what mood will these letters have?
“Letters to the Inner Child” - in this part of the exhibition, a group of artists SISTERS IN ART conducts a conversation in white on white about the psychological aspect of art. Artists Victoria and Olga work in mixed media, combining painting and object art. “Excavation of the Inner Child” is a story about how children forget childhood toys, and with them, feelings, resources and particles of love. So what will happen? What if, as an adult, you write a letter to your inner child and start excavating? SISTERS IN ART create a space to search for answers to this question.
The Eastern art market is growing rapidly, and it is this direction that artists discuss in the “Letters to the East” exhibition. This is a series of works of ceramics and graphics by Anya Karmalita, which in its stylistic and color scheme is based on oriental motifs, but is not a direct citation of China, Japan, Korea or a repetition of traditional ornaments. This is a story about the combination of line and pattern, silence and the search for balance, about the obvious ceremonies of the East and their modern interpretation.
Artist: ANASTASIA KOLYSHKINA
Artist: EVGENIYA GOLTSEVA
“Letters on Timeless Values” - here we are talking about values and treasures. Things and techniques that people pass on from generation to generation and the energy that creates history. These are letters about secrets and collections. For example, about the collection of nesting dolls by Evgenia Goltseva, which combine modern plasticity and classical charisma. About the secret of creating a large-scale handmade mosaic: the labor-intensive and lengthy process of turning the pieces into a single whole. With light, but precisely thought-out movements, artist Anastasia Kolyshkina created a picture of happiness and the feeling of a sunny summer day from pieces of smalt.
The chapter “Letters about Feelings” appeals to classic letters: romantic, sensual, emotional entries in diaries. The works of four artists are collected here. From abstract to realistic subjects, they are all united by the idea of living feelings. In this part of the collection, it is especially interesting to pay attention to how, using different techniques, one can express a state and immerse the viewer in it. Moments of loneliness and melancholy are especially vividly captured in the paintings of Zhenya Datsko, but at the same time they radiate a mysterious and bewitching beauty.
