Maria Smerchinskaya was born and raised in Moscow. Artist, laureate of the Russian Arts Prize, winner of international and Russian painting competitions. She studied painting at an art school, had individual training with a teacher at the Moscow State Academy of Arts named after V.S. Surikov
In her work, the artist explores the concept of “Deep Ecology”. Touching on the environmental issues of modern society, believing that the continuous development of technology causes irreversible harm to the environment, which leads to social collapse. The artist tries to get closer to understanding the structure of nature through her artistic practices. Thus, the environmental agenda, presented through the sphere of art, is one of the effective means of disseminating the ideas of “Deep Ecology” and, consequently, changing the viewer’s attitude towards this issue
